Boeing asked DK to imagine how attendees at a conference could see all of the new features of their latest aircraft. We decided to try using the (just released) HTC Vive to give people a personal tour of the plane. I built this prototype in a couple hours.
The user is first presented with a scale model of the aircraft. Points of interest are highlighted with a wireframe cube representing the room volume. The user can target these volumes and shrink themselves down into the model. From there they can teleport to different areas using the controller.
An additional experiment was putting a physical chair in the room, matching the virtual chair's position. This adds tactile reinforcement to the virtual illusion.
